Dogtown for Lynnfield, MA dog owners: daycare, boarding, grooming and training
Lynnfield sits on the stretch where Interstate 95 and Route 128 share the road, so Gloucester is one long highway run away. This page covers that drive, the Lynnfield rules your dog lives by at home (a March 1 license, a leash-or-voice-control bylaw, no dogs on the playing fields), and which Dogtown services make sense at that distance.
- Getting to Eastern Ave
- Route 128 north from the I-95 interchange to its end in Gloucester, then Eastern Avenue: about 40 minutes outside rush hour, by our estimate
- The Pup Van
- Outside the Pup Van towns; ask us about pick-up
- Dog licensing
- Town Clerk, Town Hall, 55 Summer Street: $10 spayed or neutered, $15 intact, no charge for owners over 70; due March 1 for the January to December license year (lynnfieldma.gov; town code 115-7)
- The beach rule
- No dogs on artificial turf or any athletic playing surface in town (town code 115-3C, voted at the April 24, 2017 Town Meeting); town conservation areas open dawn to dusk with no hunting (chapter 320)
- A trail we know
- Bow Ridge Reservation (Lynnfield Conservation Commission): 1.5 miles of blazed trails, open dawn to dusk; dogs leashed or under voice control under the town bylaw (lynnfieldma.gov; town code 115-3)

Route 128, start to finish
One highway the whole way: Route 128 north from Lynnfield to its end in Gloucester
From Lynnfield center, Summer Street and Walnut Street lead to the interchange where Interstate 95 and Route 128 run together. Head north, stay with 128 where it parts from I-95, and keep going through Danvers and Beverly and over the Annisquam River until the highway runs out at the Gloucester rotaries. From the last rotary it is a short run along Eastern Avenue to number 210. The trip takes about 40 minutes outside rush hour, by our estimate.
Lynnfield is outside the Pup Van towns; ask us about pick-up. The van's set price of $10 each way belongs to Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea, and the front desk will say honestly whether a Lynnfield street can ever be on the route, and at what cost. Most Lynnfield owners will drive. Check the direction of your week first: a Boston commute points the other way, so the Gloucester run fits best on days you work from home, head north anyway, or book a stay rather than a single day.
- Route 128 north from the I-95 interchange to its end, then Eastern Avenue
- About 40 minutes outside rush hour, by our estimate
- Pup Van: Lynnfield is outside the four van towns, so ask us about pick-up
- Weekday drop-off and pick-up: 6:30 to 9:30 AM, 12 to 1 PM, 4 to 6:30 PM
Lynnfield dog rules
Lynnfield licenses are due March 1, and voice control counts as control
Every Lynnfield dog six months or older is licensed with the Town Clerk at Town Hall, 55 Summer Street, for a license year that runs January 1 to December 31, and chapter 115 of the town code sets the deadline at March 1. At the time of writing the fee is $10 for a spayed or neutered dog and $15 for an intact dog, and owners over 70 pay nothing with proof of age. The clerk needs proof of an unexpired rabies vaccination; you can license online, at the counter, or by mail with the form that comes with the January town census.
The same chapter gives a trained dog some room. Off your own property, a dog must be held firmly on a leash or be under your control, and the bylaw counts spoken or visual commands the dog obeys as control. A leash is required on school grounds, in businesses and at public gatherings, and since a 2017 Town Meeting vote no dog may set foot on an artificial turf field or any other athletic playing surface in town. Violations cost $25 for the first in a calendar year and $50 for each one after.
- License: Town Clerk, 55 Summer Street; $10 spayed or neutered, $15 intact
- Due March 1 for the January to December license year; free for owners over 70
- Off your property: a leash, or voice and hand commands your dog reliably obeys
- No dogs on turf fields or any athletic playing surface
Where Lynnfield dogs walk
Bow Ridge and Reedy Meadow: town conservation land, open dawn to dusk
Lynnfield's conservation areas are open to everyone without charge from dawn to dusk under chapter 320 of the town code, and hunting, trapping and firearms are banned on all of them. Bow Ridge Reservation is the hill walk: 74 acres of town land with 1.5 miles of blazed trails, some of them steep, and a view of the whole Boston skyline from the top of the ledges. The town lists access at the upper end of Ledge Road and Lynnbrook Road, and parking behind a dealership on Route 1.
Reedy Meadow, which the town calls the largest freshwater cattail marsh in Massachusetts and the U.S. Department of the Interior has designated a National Natural Landmark, is the quieter choice: the Partridge Island trail starts on Main Street across from Heritage Lane and crosses the meadow on a boardwalk. The conservation-area rules add no separate dog rule, so the town bylaw applies there as everywhere, a leash or dependable voice control, with every bag of waste carried home. A dog who comes back from the marsh black to the elbows is a dog for our grooming table.
What Lynnfield books
Overnight stays, Academy days and training: the services worth the drive
A drive of about 40 minutes outside rush hour, by our estimate, makes a twice-daily daycare run from Lynnfield a real commitment, so we point most Lynnfield families to bookings with one drop-off and one pick-up. An overnight suite is $78 a night: your dog joins a matched playgroup of 7 to 10 by day and sleeps in a quiet suite with 24/7 monitoring. The Dogtown Classic adds $10 a night for a daily homemade pupsicle or puppy cup and 10 percent off grooming; the Deluxe adds $15 for a stuffed Kong or Toppl, a daily treadmill or enrichment session and a memory-foam bed.
Training follows the same logic. Sessions start from $94, and a one-week Foundation or two-week Advanced board and train ends with go-home lessons, so the skills come back to Lynnfield with your dog. For a single day with structure, Dogtown Academy is $89 full and $69 half, with a training session and one-on-one trainer time built in. Grooming books straight in with no evaluation, from $55 for a bath, and the quiet cat studio takes Lynnfield cats too, with a Full Bath at $95 and Minimal Trims at $45.
Getting started
From a Lynnfield driveway to a first playgroup, in five steps
The free evaluation is a temperament test followed by a few supervised hours in a group, held on weekdays between 6:30 and 9:30 AM by appointment. Leave early and you reach Eastern Ave at the start of the window with time to spare at the desk. The evaluation opens daycare, Academy days, overnight stays and at-home walks; grooming is the one service that skips it, and whether we can walk your dog at home depends on the address, so ask us about your street.
We publish stories about Dogtown dogs from Lynnfield only with the family's written permission, so for now the way to hear how Lynnfield dogs get on with us is to ask the front desk. New customers enter FIRST15 when booking and take 15 percent off the first daycare visit, and every visit after that shows up as a report card in the Dogtown app.
