Dogtown for Danvers, MA dog owners: daycare, boarding, grooming and training

Danvers changes how it licenses dogs in 2027, keeps a dog park with a small-dog enclosure inside Endicott Park and has a rail trail running from the Peabody line to Wenham. This page sets out those Danvers facts as we found them in October 2026, the drive up Route 128, and how a Danvers dog can use daycare, overnight stays, grooming and training at 210 Eastern Ave.

Licensing news

Danvers dog licenses move to the calendar year in January 2027

The Danvers Town Clerk announced on January 28, 2026 that dog licenses will follow the calendar year from January 2027, January to December, instead of the spring renewals Danvers has used, and that registration for 2027 opens in November and December 2026. If your Danvers dog is licensed for 2026, that end-of-year window is the next date to note. The 2026 fees on the same notice were $20 for a spayed or neutered dog, with documentation, and $25 for an intact dog.

Danvers registers dogs through the town's online portal, which asks you to upload a current rabies certificate, and the clerk's office at Town Hall, 1 Sylvan Street, answers questions on 978-777-0001. At Dogtown we check the current Danvers license and the Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella records at the free evaluation. If the evaluation falls close to the November renewal, renew first; a dog joins a playgroup only with both on file.

  • 2026 fees: $20 spayed or neutered, $25 intact
  • From January 2027, Danvers licenses follow the calendar year
  • 2027 registration opens in November and December 2026
  • Register online with a current rabies certificate

The drive

Route 128 north from Danvers: about 30 minutes to Eastern Ave

From Danvers, every sensible route ends up on Route 128 north. It carries you past Beverly, across the Annisquam River into Gloucester and on to the highway's end, where Eastern Avenue picks up toward Rockport and 210 Eastern Ave is a couple of minutes on. By our estimate that is about 30 minutes outside rush hour from the center of town, longer when 128 backs up on a summer Friday or in the evening commute.

Danvers is outside the four Pup Van towns, where the van runs at $10 each way. Ask us about pick-up for a Danvers address, and the front desk will look at the distance and the day's route before quoting. If you drive, use the windows: 6:30 to 9:30 AM for drop-off and 4 to 6:30 PM for pick-up. A half day rarely pays from this far out; a full day on the $380 10-pack comes to $38 for the same two drives.

Danvers dog life

Endicott Park: leashed everywhere except the Danvers Dog Park, open 9 AM to dusk

Endicott Park on Forest Street is the Danvers dog walk, and the town's rule there is simple: pets are welcome but must be on leash everywhere except inside the designated dog park, and the waste goes home with you. The town lists fines of $25 to $100 for failing to comply. The Danvers Dog Park itself is at 57 Forest Street, with the Dean Street entrance off Forest Street the suggested way in, and it is open from 9 AM to dusk.

The dog park rules are worth reading before the first visit. Dogs must be licensed, with proof of a current rabies vaccination, leashed coming in and going out, and at least four months old; dogs in heat stay home. Each handler may bring two dogs at most and must be 18 or older, children under 12 are not permitted, prong collars and choke chains are banned, and treats and toys stay outside. The small-dog enclosure is for dogs of 25 pounds or less.

  • Endicott Park: on leash except inside the dog park; fines of $25 to $100
  • Danvers Dog Park, 57 Forest Street: 9 AM to dusk
  • No dogs under four months or in heat; two dogs per handler
  • Small-dog enclosure: 25 pounds and under

The rail trail

The Danvers Rail Trail: 4.3 miles of town trail, dawn to dusk

The Danvers Rail Trail runs 4.3 miles north to south on town property, connecting to trails in Peabody and Wenham, and a new 2.9-mile section is being built toward the Middleton Rail Trail. Use is limited to dawn to dusk. The Friends of the Danvers Rail Trail say pet waste is the number one complaint they hear from trail users, and the town bylaw they quote requires a proper leash on town property outside the Endicott Park dog park.

A rail trail walk is good leash practice and thin exercise for a young dog that wants to run. That gap is what daycare fills: $42 a full day or $33 a half day, in a group of 7 to 10 matched by size and temperament, with the turf yard, the pools and the indoor floors. Dogtown Academy, at $89 a full day, adds a training session with our trainer for the dog whose rail trail manners still need work.

Nights, grooming, training

Overnight stays, grooming and training for Danvers households

Overnight suites are $78 a night; the dog joins a playgroup by day and is monitored around the clock. The Classic bundle adds $10 a night for a daily pupsicle or puppy cup and 10 percent off grooming, and the Deluxe adds $15 for a stuffed Kong or Toppl, a daily treadmill or enrichment session, a memory-foam bed and 15 percent off grooming. Grooming itself needs no evaluation: baths are $55 to $95 by size, full grooms $75 to $120, and Danvers cats have a quiet studio of their own.

Training is fear- and force-free, from $94 a session, with programs quoted after a short assessment. Puppies from 8 to 16 weeks start with Tiny Tails Puppy School; adolescents and adults with Calm & Connected, which works on impulse control and minor leash reactivity. For a family that cannot drive up twice a week, a one-week Foundation or two-week Advanced board and train ends with go-home lessons.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this

Short, complete answers you can act on today. More in the full FAQ.

How long is the drive from Danvers to Dogtown?
About 30 minutes outside rush hour, by our estimate, on Route 128 north to its end in Gloucester and then Eastern Avenue. The evening commute and summer Fridays on 128 stretch it, which is why the early window, 6:30 to 9:30 AM, is the easy one for drop-off, with pick-up between 4 and 6:30 PM.
Does the Pup Van serve Danvers?
Danvers is outside the Pup Van towns, so ask us about pick-up. The flat $10 each-way rate covers Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea. For a Danvers street, the front desk quotes after looking at the distance and that day's route, so put the address on the customer inquiry form when you first get in touch.
When do I renew a Danvers dog license now?
According to the Town Clerk's January 2026 notice, Danvers licenses switch to the calendar year from January 2027, and registration for 2027 opens in November and December 2026. The 2026 fees were $20 for a spayed or neutered dog and $25 for an intact dog. Check the town's page for the current details before you renew.
Can my puppy go to the Danvers Dog Park?
Not before four months. The town's rules keep out dogs younger than four months and dogs in heat, require a license and proof of rabies vaccination, and limit each handler to two dogs. For a younger puppy, Tiny Tails Puppy School at Dogtown takes pups from 8 to 16 weeks, and the training team replies within the hour on weekdays.
Does a Danvers dog need an evaluation for a bath?
No. Grooming is the one Dogtown service with no evaluation, so a Danvers dog can book a bath ($55 to $95 by size) or a full-service groom ($75 to $120) online or in the app and come straight in. Daycare, Academy, overnight stays and walks all start with the free evaluation.
