Endicott Park with your dog: leash rules, trails and parking

Endicott Park began as an early 19th-century gentleman's farm, and Danvers still keeps farm animals in its barn. A dog walk here passes pastures, an orchard, woods and marsh, so the leash rule matters more than it would on a plain woodland trail. Here is what the town's own pages say, checked in fall 2026, and where they leave a question for the park office.

The rule

Leashed everywhere but the dog park, and every bag goes home

The town's answer to whether pets are allowed is yes, always, on a leash unless they are inside the designated dog park. Owners must pick up after them, because, the town notes, dog waste carries disease and contaminates water supplies. Breaking those bylaws carries a fine of $25 to $100. The rule covers the trails, the gravel roads, the picnic areas, the pond and the lawns alike, so the only off-leash ground in the whole park is the fenced dog park itself.

Endicott runs a carry in, carry out policy and keeps no trash barrels anywhere in the park. That changes the routine for a dog walk: bring more bags than you think you need and a way to carry the full ones back to the car, such as a lidded pouch clipped to the leash. The park is open every day of the year from 9 AM, and the town gives closing as dusk, so a winter afternoon walk is a short one.

  • On a leash everywhere except inside the Danvers Dog Park
  • Fines of $25 to $100 under the town bylaws
  • No trash barrels, so carry every bag out
  • Open daily, 9 AM to dusk

The farm

The barnyard is a working one, so the leash gets shorter near the animals

The park keeps the carriage house, animal barn, hay barn, outbuildings and pastures of the homestead purchased in 1961, and the Children's Barn houses domestic farm animals in a historic farm building. Park staff care for the animals daily, the town says they are vaccinated and visited regularly by a veterinarian, and staff give talks on animal husbandry. The mansion at the center, Glen Magna Farms, is maintained separately by the Danvers Historical Society.

The town reminds visitors that farm animals are cared for differently from household pets. For a dog owner, that means the barnyard is not a place for greetings. Keep your dog on a short leash and back from fences and pens, move on if it fixates or barks, and never let it push its nose under a rail. A herding or hunting breed that has never seen livestock may find the pastures more exciting than anything else in the park, so pass them early in the walk.

Trails

A network of trails, paths and gravel roads, with the dog park off Dean Street

The town describes Endicott's landscape as pastoral views, orchards, woodlands and marshes, linked by a network of trails, pathways and gravel roads. Along the way are a pond, a playground, picnic areas, community gardens, a disc golf course, a sensory trail and the Nature Center. The town's pages do not publish a loop length, so ask the park office at 978-774-6518 for the current map, or look at the park map on the town's Endicott Park pages before you go.

For a leashed dog, the gravel roads are the easy miles and the woods paths the quieter ones. Give the disc golf course a wide berth when people are playing, keep clear of the playground and the reserved picnic areas, and save off-leash time for the dog park. The town suggests reaching the dog park from the Dean Street entrance off Forest Street, across from St. Richard's Church, and it keeps the same 9 AM to dusk hours; our Danvers page lists its full rules.

  6. 06

Parking and season

Weekend and holiday parking costs $2 or $4; weekdays run on donations

Danvers charges a daily parking fee on weekends and holidays: $2 for a vehicle belonging to a Danvers resident and $4 for a nonresident vehicle. Weekdays carry no listed fee, and the town invites donations to the Friends of Endicott Park instead. From Route 128, the town's directions are Route 62 west for about two miles, then left onto Forest Street for 0.4 miles, with the park on the right.

The town says it receives an overwhelming number of requests each year for its picnic areas, and every organized group or family outing needs a permit, so expect permitted groups on the lawns and at the pavilion in good weather. For a dog still learning to ignore food and children, a weekday morning is the gentler first visit. Tick season runs through the same months: the CDC gives April to September as the most active period, in grassy, brushy and wooded ground.

  • Weekends and holidays: $2 for Danvers vehicles, $4 for others
  • Weekdays: no listed fee, donations welcome
  • Picnic groups need permits, so expect them on fine days
  • Ticks are most active April to September

From Danvers

Danvers to Eastern Ave is a Route 128 run, outside the Pup Van towns

From Endicott Park, Route 62 takes you back to Route 128, and 128 north runs to its end in Gloucester, where Eastern Avenue leads to number 210. Danvers is outside the four Pup Van towns, so ask us about pick-up. Daycare costs $42 for a full day in a playgroup of 7 to 10 dogs matched by size and temperament, and grooming needs no evaluation, with a bath from $55 to $95 by size.

A dog that walks past the barnyard on a loose leash has done some real work. A dog that drags you to the pasture fence may be a candidate for Dogtown Academy, $89 a full day, where every day includes a training session with our trainer, or for training sessions from $94. Every daycare and Academy dog starts with a free evaluation on a weekday morning between 6:30 and 9:30 AM.

Questions people ask about this

Short, complete answers you can act on today. More in the full FAQ.

Are dogs allowed at Endicott Park in Danvers?
Yes. The town welcomes pets at Endicott Park on a leash everywhere except inside the fenced Danvers Dog Park, and owners must pick up after them. The town lists fines of $25 to $100 for breaking those bylaws. The park is open every day from 9 AM to dusk, and the dog park keeps the same hours.
Can my dog meet the farm animals at Endicott Park?
We would not try it. The animals live in a working barnyard, cared for daily by park staff, and the town points out that farm animals are cared for differently from household pets. Keep your dog leashed and back from fences and pens, and walk on if it fixates. Ask park staff if you have a question about the animals.
Is there a fee to park at Endicott Park?
Only on weekends and holidays, when Danvers charges $2 for a resident vehicle and $4 for a nonresident one. Weekday visits carry no listed fee, and the town invites donations to the Friends of Endicott Park. The address is 57 Forest Street; from Route 128, take Route 62 west and turn left onto Forest Street.
Where do I throw away dog waste at Endicott Park?
You take it home. Endicott Park has a carry in, carry out policy and no trash barrels anywhere in the park, and the town requires owners to pick up after their dogs, with fines of $25 to $100. Bring spare bags and something to carry the full ones back to the car.
Does Endicott Park have an off-leash area?
Yes, the Danvers Dog Park inside Endicott Park is the only place there a dog may be off leash. The town suggests the Dean Street entrance off Forest Street. Dogs must be licensed, with proof of rabies vaccination, at least four months old and not in heat, and each handler, 18 or older, may bring two dogs.
