Paying for it
Do you offer payment plans for board and train?
Board and train is a significant purchase, and it is reasonable to ask how it is paid for before you fall for the idea. This page covers what we publish, the questions that get you the real terms, the options that spread cost by design, and what to check if a lender offers to split the bill.
In brief
No payment plan is published, so the payment terms arrive with your quote and belong in writing
Every Dogtown training program is quoted after a short assessment, and board and train is no exception. The price, any deposit, when the balance is due and which payment methods are accepted are all part of the terms confirmed when you book. We do not publish them yet, and we would rather say so than imply a yes or a no. The quickest route to real numbers is the training form; the team replies within one hour on business days.
What is already published helps you budget around the stay. The evaluation before it is free, on a weekday morning between 6:30 and 9:30 AM. Training sessions start from $94. Optional extras carry their own prices: a bath before pick-up from $55 by size, enrichment add-ons from $5 to $10, and the Pup Van at $10 each way in Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea.
- Board and train price: quoted after the assessment
- Deposit, balance and payment methods: confirmed at booking
- The evaluation: free
- Extras such as grooming and the Pup Van: published prices
Questions to ask
Ask how the total is split and when each part falls due, and you will know whether installments are possible
A payment plan is really a question about timing. Ask what the full figure is, how it divides between anything due to hold your dates and the balance, and when the balance falls due: at drop-off, during the stay or at pick-up. Ask whether the balance can be split into more than one payment, and which methods are accepted for each part. Those answers tell you whether paying over time is possible without anyone needing to call it a plan.
Then ask about the edges. Are grooming, enrichment and the Pup Van billed with the program or separately? If the evaluation points your dog to a different program, does money already paid move with it? Is outside financing offered, and if so, by whom? Write the answers down or ask for them by email, and read them at home. Our page on board and train policies explains what an agreement usually covers.

Paying as you go
Some Dogtown training is already sold in pieces, and the packs lower the price per day
If the obstacle is paying for a week or two at once, look at the programs built from separate visits. Private sessions start from $94 each, so the cost arrives one session at a time. Dogtown Academy, a structured daycare day with a training session included, is $89 for a full day or $69 for a half, and the packs bring that down: a full-day 10-pack is $785 rather than ten single days at $89 each, and a half-day 10-pack is $610 rather than ten at $69.
These are not a discounted board and train. Your dog sleeps at home, progress is slower, and you are part of every week, which suits some households better anyway. They also work as a bridge: a few Academy half days now and a stay later, when the timing and budget fit. Canine Campus, 2, 4 or 6 weeks of day training with pick-up and drop-off, is quoted the same way as board and train, so ask how it is paid as well.
| Option | Published price | How the cost spreads |
|---|---|---|
| Private training session | From $94 | One session at a time |
| Academy full day | $89; 5-pack $415; 10-pack $785 | Per day or per pack |
| Academy half day | $69; 5-pack $320; 10-pack $610 | Per day or per pack |
| Evaluation | Free | Nothing to pay before the consult |
| Board and train | Quoted after the assessment | Terms confirmed at booking |
Outside financing
If a lender offers to split the bill, read its terms as closely as the training agreement
Buy now, pay later plans and pet-care credit lines turn up at many checkouts, and they can make a large cost feel smaller than it is. The Federal Trade Commission warns that many such plans charge high late fees, per-transaction fees or change fees, and that some report to the credit bureaus, so a late or missed payment could hurt your credit score. Some also run a credit check before you can use them.
The FTC's advice is to know the full cost, including interest and fees, to read what other customers say about disputes and returns, and to understand what happens if you miss a payment. Apply the same care to refunds: if a stay is moved or shortened, find out whether money goes back to you or to the lender. Whether Dogtown works with any lender is a question for the consult, and we will not guess at it here.

For your dog
Choose the program for the dog first, then fit the payment around it
The costliest mistake is choosing the wrong length to save money. A one-week Foundation stay suits puppies, young dogs and missing manners; Advanced's second week is where distraction proofing and real-world outings happen for an adolescent. Picking one week for a dog that needs two can mean paying again later. Gabby will say plainly which fits at the consult, and whether a cheaper route, such as Academy days or private sessions, would do the job.
Reactive, fearful or anxious dogs often do better in programs built from sessions anyway, with you holding the leash: Focus & Flow runs 6 weeks and 12 sessions, and React Less, Relax More 8 weeks and 16. Those spread the cost over weeks by design. Whatever you choose, ask for the full quote and terms in writing, and set them beside any other North Shore program on equal terms.
