Which addresses can Dogtown walk?
This is the question we get asked most about walking, and the one we answer least neatly on a web page. Here is why there is no map, how the front desk actually decides, and what to do if the answer for your street is not yet.
The short version
There is no service map for walks, and that is deliberate
A published map would be wrong for half the year. A street our walkers reach comfortably in October may sit behind an hour of beach traffic in July, and a road that is a ten-minute drive in May can be a plowed-in dead end after a February nor'easter. So we decide per address, per schedule and per season, and our price list says so: availability depends on your address and the season.
What we can tell you is where the team already goes. The Pup Van runs pick-up and drop-off for daycare and overnight stays at $10 each way in Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea, so that is ground our drivers cover every weekday. It is not a promise about walks, because a walk needs a walker on foot at your door inside a window, not a van passing through, but it tells you the shape of the area.

Why the season changes the answer
Summer traffic, festival weekends and storm days all shrink a walker's round
A walker's day is a chain of visits with driving in between, and Cape Ann roads do not behave the same in every month. From late June the beach roads crawl, Route 128 backs up at the rotaries, and a midday round that held eight addresses in March holds fewer. Festival days are worse: St. Peter's Fiesta in late June, the Gloucester fireworks on July 3 and the Schooner Festival over Labor Day weekend each close streets and fill the ones that stay open.
Winter cuts the other way. A nor'easter can close a road for a morning, and the short days between November and February compress the safe walking hours. None of this means a walk cannot happen; it means the front desk needs your days before promising a window, and it may say yes for the school year and ask you to check again in June.

How it works at Dogtown
Ask with your days in hand, and the front desk answers for that schedule
The question is easiest to answer when it is specific. Not 'do you walk in my town' but 'can you reach this address on Tuesdays and Thursdays around noon from September'. Send that through the contact form, call 978 491-5922, or ask at the free evaluation, which runs on weekdays between 6:30 and 9:30 AM and is the first step for any dog new to Dogtown. The front desk checks it against the round for that season and answers: yes, not yet, or yes with a different window.
If the answer is yes, you set the length, the window and the way in, and book single walks online or a 10-pack or 30-pack in the Dogtown app. If it is not yet, we will say what would change it: a different day, a wider window or the end of the summer season.

What it means for your dog
If we cannot walk your street, your dog still has a Dogtown day
For most households outside a walker's round, the answer is daycare with the van. A full day is $42 and a half day $33, playgroups are 7 to 10 dogs matched by size and temperament, and the Pup Van collects and returns your dog for $10 each way in the four towns. A dog who is alone from the early train to dinner often does better with two daycare days a week than with a single midday walk, and the same free evaluation opens both.
For the dog who is not a group dog, a reactive dog, a senior or a convalescent, we would rather say not yet than send a walker who cannot arrive on time. Ask again when the season turns and keep the evaluation on file.
