Booking a groom
How far ahead are grooming appointments booked?
A groom that slips by three weeks is how a tidy coat becomes a de-matting job. This page covers how grooming lead times are set, which requests fill first, and the habits that get your dog in sooner at 210 Eastern Ave.
The short version
Lead time depends on that week's calendar, so the live booking page is the real answer
The honest answer is that it depends on that week's calendar. A grooming studio books in blocks sized to the dog and the service, and how far out the next opening falls moves with cancellations, the season and how many large or matted coats are already booked. Rather than print a number that would be wrong by Thursday, we let the calendar answer: the Book button on this site and the Dogtown app both run on MoeGo and show open grooming times as they stand.
If nothing appears in the window you want, call the front desk at 978 491-5922 or message through the app and ask how the next few weeks look. Say what your dog needs, bath only or full service, and its weight band, because a 20-pound bath and a 100-pound full groom take very different amounts of table time. Grooming is the one Dogtown service with no evaluation, so the only thing between a new dog and the table is an open slot.
- Check MoeGo or the Dogtown app first; it shows open slots as they stand
- Call 978 491-5922 or message in the app for anything the calendar cannot show
- Have the service and your dog's weight band ready
- No evaluation is needed for dog or cat grooming
What fills first
Saturdays, holiday weeks and shedding season go first, because everyone wants them at once
The slots that go first are the ones most households want at the same time. We are open Monday to Friday 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday is closed except for overnight-stay pick-up and drop-off, so Saturday is the only weekend grooming day. If your plan depends on a Saturday, a clean dog before holiday guests or a de-shed when the coat starts blowing in spring, look earlier than you would for a Tuesday.
Cape Ann adds its own reasons to plan. Gloucester's beaches reopen to dogs on October 1, with off-leash days that alternate between Good Harbor and Wingaersheek at the time of writing, and a month of salt water and sand changes what a coat needs. If your dog is already staying overnight with us over a holiday, add the groom when you book the stay so it happens before pick-up; daycare dogs can be groomed during their day the same way.
| What you need | When to book | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A standing groom on your coat's interval | At pick-up, for the next visit | Holds the rhythm and takes $5 off |
| A Saturday slot | As soon as you know the date | Saturday is the only weekend grooming day |
| A clean dog before a holiday | When your plans are set | Or add it to an overnight stay or daycare day already booked |
| A spring or fall de-shed | As the coat starts to blow | Bath plus Shed Release ($10) before the undercoat comes out on its own |
| A puppy's first groom | A quiet weekday, once your vet is happy with vaccines | A first visit goes best unhurried |
| A matted coat | Now, with the mats noted | De-matting is $15 per 20 minutes and needs its own time |
Getting in sooner
Rebooking at pick-up is the surest way to get the slot you want
The surest way in is never needing to hunt for a slot. Book the next appointment before you leave and you take $5 off that service while holding a date matched to the coat, instead of searching once the coat is already overdue. Most coats run on a rhythm: curly coats every four to eight weeks for a haircut, double coats every six to twelve for a bath and de-shed. Rebooking turns that rhythm into a calendar entry.
When you need a slot at shorter notice, flexibility does the work. A bath is a smaller block than a full haircut, a weekday is easier to find than a Saturday, and a flexible pick-up time lets the groomer fit your dog around booked work. A slot freed by a cancellation can appear in the calendar, so check again later in the week. If your own plans change, cancel with notice: grooming appointments cancelled without notice carry a $10 fee.

If your preferred date is gone, take the nearest open weekday rather than waiting for a Saturday

Your dog
Puppies, matted coats and seniors need a planned slot more than a fast one
For most adult dogs, a slot a little further out costs nothing but patience. Three groups are different. A puppy's first groom belongs on an unhurried weekday with room to go slowly, booked once your vet is happy with the vaccine schedule. A matted coat needs a slot sized for the de-matting, billed at $15 per 20 minutes, so book as soon as you find the mats and say so in the notes, because waiting lets them tighten.
Seniors, and any dog who needs slower and more careful handling, the $20 behavior or handling surcharge on our menu, also do better with a planned slot, since the groomer can allow time for breaks rather than fitting the dog between others. Tell us at booking. And if a double-coated dog has started to blow coat, a bath with Shed Release booked now takes the undercoat out before it settles into your sofa.
- Puppies: an unhurried weekday for the first visit
- Matted coats: book now and flag the mats
- Seniors and nervous dogs: a planned slot with time for breaks
- Shedding double coats: book as the blow starts, not after
Cats too
Cat grooming books through the same calendar, with four services to choose from
Cats book the same way, online, in the app or by phone, with no evaluation appointment first. Choose the service that fits the coat: nail clipping at $20, Minimal Trims at $45 for trimming and partial shaving without a bath, the Full Bath at $95, or the Full Service at $120 with bath, shaving, trims and nails. Every cat is assessed before the service, and the groomer confirms the plan with you.
A matted cat is where waiting costs the most, because mats tighten and join over time. If you find knots in the armpits, belly or britches, book the next opening rather than the perfect one, and describe what you found. Long-haired cats in a heavy spring shed are worth booking ahead for the same reason; a Full Bath that lands as the undercoat loosens is easier on the cat than one that arrives after it has felted.
