Dogs at Beverly beaches: Lynch Park and Dane Street hours

Hours-based access means your dog shares the beach with the people who arrive as the dog hours end, or who were there before they began. That asks for a dog that can be leashed and walked off the sand at a set time without a fight, a calm greeting for children on the paths, and an owner who watches the clock. Beverly's rule is about coexistence more than distance, and the dog that does well there is the one that settles when asked.

The water is the same cold salt as everywhere on the North Shore. Bring fresh water so the dog does not drink from the harbor, rinse paws and belly before the car, and check pads after a winter walk on treated sidewalks. A city beach also collects what a city drops: food wrappers, fishing line and the odd hook, so a dog that scavenges needs a leash or a reliable leave-it, which our trainers teach as impulse control.

Up Route 128, Manchester-by-the-Sea's Singing Beach takes licensed, vaccinated dogs from October 15 to April 14 with a walk-on fee while staff are on duty.

Further on, Gloucester's Good Harbor runs even dates from October 1 to March 31 and Wingaersheek odd dates to April 30, and Rockport's beaches allow dogs outside June 1 to September 15.
