Reaching the desk

What is the fastest way to reach Dogtown?

The fastest channel depends on what you need and when you send it. A call at 5 PM competes with a lobby full of dogs going home; a message at 10:30 AM does not. Here is which route suits each kind of question, and the hours when the front desk is busiest.

The short version

Call about today, message about changes, and use the forms for anything new

Dogtown has five ways in, and each one is quickest for a different job. The phone, 978 491-5922, reaches the front desk while the building is open: 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 6 PM on Saturdays. Messages in the Dogtown app reach the same desk in writing. The contact form and the customer inquiry form on this site each come with a published reply time, and email to info@dogtowndaycare.com suits questions with a lot of detail.

Often the quickest answer is the one you do not have to wait for. A dog who has already done the free evaluation can be booked for daycare, an Academy day or an overnight stay online or in the app, because both run on MoeGo, and grooming books the same way with no evaluation at all. Keep the phone for things that cannot wait an hour and the written channels for things that need a record.

Case by case

Each kind of question has a channel that reaches the right person first

Something happening today belongs on the phone. If traffic on Route 128 at the Annisquam bridge means you will miss the 4 to 6:30 PM window, or your dog walked stiffly to the car at pick-up, call 978 491-5922 while the desk is open. A spoken answer settles a same-day problem faster than a thread, and the person on the line can tell you there and then what your options are.

Changes to something already booked go in the app. The Messages tab is built for pick-up times, add-ons and medication notes, and a written request does not depend on anyone remembering a phone call, which matters when the person reading it at 6:30 AM was not at the desk yesterday afternoon. Adding the Pup Van at $10 each way, a lick mat at $5 or a bath before an overnight pick-up are all message jobs.

New customers can skip phone tag entirely. The customer inquiry form asks for your dog's name, breed, age and the services you want, and we reply within one business day to book the free evaluation, which runs on weekdays between 6:30 and 9:30 AM. Training is quicker still: pick Dog Training on the contact form, describe what your dog does and when, and the team replies within the hour on weekdays.

  • About today and urgent: the phone, 978 491-5922
  • Changing a booking: Messages in the Dogtown app
  • New to Dogtown: the customer inquiry form, one business day
  • Training: the contact form, within the hour on weekdays
  • Booking a day or a groom: online or in the app, no reply needed

Timing

The desk is busiest inside the drop-off windows, so call in the gaps

The front desk checks dogs in and out inside fixed windows: 6:30 to 9:30 AM, 12 to 1 PM and 4 to 6:30 PM on weekdays, and 8 to 10 AM, 12 to 1 PM and 4 to 6 PM on Saturdays. During those hours the lobby is handing over leashes, overnight bags and the day's news, and a ringing phone competes with the dog standing at the counter. Between them, roughly 9:30 AM to noon and 1 to 4 PM on a weekday, nobody is being checked in.

So if your question can wait an hour, wait for the gap. A mid-morning call about next month's overnight stay reaches someone with time to look at the calendar. If it cannot wait, call anyway, because a dog's welfare comes before the queue. And if a call during a window does not connect, put the same question in the app straight away instead of redialing, so it is written down and waiting.

  1. 01

Ask yourself whether it is about today; if it is, call 978 491-5922

  2. 02

If it can wait, aim for a weekday between 9:30 AM and noon or between 1 and 4 PM

  3. 03

Have your dog's name and the booking date ready before you dial

  4. 04

If the call does not connect, send the same question through Messages in the app

  5. 05

For a question with several parts, follow up by email so the detail sits in one place

What it means for you

Write it once, in the right place, and there is rarely anything to chase

Slow answers usually come from a question split across several routes. One message with your name, your dog's name, the date and exactly what you need gets handled faster than a voicemail, an email and a form that each hold part of the story. Pick the channel from the table above, put everything in it, and give it the reply time it carries before you try another way in.

Two Cape Ann habits help. If the Pup Van collects your dog in Gloucester, Rockport, Essex or Manchester-by-the-Sea, send address or timing changes the day before rather than the morning of, so the route can include them. And because Sunday is closed for daycare, with the building open only for overnight-stay drop-off and pick-up from 8 to 10 AM and 4 to 6 PM, send weekend questions by Friday.

  • One message: your name, your dog's name, the date and the request
  • One channel per question, given the time it carries
  • Pup Van changes: the day before, not the morning of
  • Weekend questions: by Friday, since Sunday is overnight windows only

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this

Short, complete answers you can act on today. More in the full FAQ.

What is Dogtown's phone number?
978 491-5922. The front desk is at 210 Eastern Ave in Gloucester, and the building is open 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM Monday to Friday and 8 AM to 6 PM on Saturday. Sunday is closed for daycare, with overnight-stay drop-off and pick-up only, 8 to 10 AM and 4 to 6 PM. A call made between the drop-off windows reaches a desk that is not in the middle of a handover.
Can I email Dogtown?
Yes, at info@dogtowndaycare.com. Email suits longer questions: a two-week overnight stay with a medication schedule, a grooming request with a photo of the cut you want, or a dog with a complicated history. We do not publish a reply time for email, so use the phone for anything about today and Messages in the app for a quick change to a booking.
How quickly will I hear back about training?
Within the hour on weekdays. Use the contact form, choose Dog Training and describe what your dog does, where and toward what. The team replies and sets up a short assessment to choose a program. Training sessions start from $94, and the plan and its cost are confirmed after that assessment rather than quoted over the phone.
Does Dogtown have a number I can text?
We have not published one. The written channels are Messages in the Dogtown app, which connects you to the front desk, the two forms on this site, and email to info@dogtowndaycare.com. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play under the name Northshore Dogtown, and it also carries report cards, photos and weekly deals.
I am new to Dogtown. Should I call or fill in the form?
Fill in the customer inquiry form. It asks for the details we need before the free evaluation, and we reply within one business day to book a weekday slot between 6:30 and 9:30 AM. A call would need the same details anyway, so the form saves a step. Bring Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella records and your city dog license to the evaluation.
