Tiny Tails is for puppies between 8 and 16 weeks, wherever they came from
The class is built for the puppy who arrived last week: the breeder pup collected in Essex, the rescue baby from Cape Ann Animal Aid, the doodle who is already too clever for the kitchen gate. The one requirement is age. Pups enroll between 8 and 16 weeks, because that is the socialization period when a puppy's brain is still deciding what counts as normal. A puppy who turns 17 weeks mid-course simply carries on; a puppy who is already 4 months old when you call belongs in Bright Beginnings instead, and we will say so.
It also fits owners who want to do this right the first time. Many of the adult dogs we meet in Level 3 programs skipped these weeks or spent them isolated, waiting for the final vaccine. Tiny Tails is the alternative: careful, clean, structured exposure while the series finishes, with your vet's timing respected. If your puppy is fearful rather than merely young, Brave & Balanced picks up at 4 months with the same trainer.

The curriculum
Two short sessions a week, built around life skills rather than tricks
Every length of Tiny Tails runs at two sessions a week: 4 weeks gives 8 sessions, 6 weeks gives 12 and 8 weeks gives 16. Sessions are short because puppy attention is short. Gabby works on the things that make a puppy easy to live with: settling on a mat, handling of paws, ears and collar, taking food gently, following a hand, coming when called from a few feet away and learning that a crate is a bedroom, not a punishment.
Socialization is the other half, and it is deliberate. Puppies meet stable adult dogs, novel surfaces, sounds and people at a pace each pup can handle, with the trainer reading body language and stopping before overwhelm. The enrichment pieces, snuffling, lick mats and simple puzzles, teach a pup to think and then to rest. Nothing is done with pressure or corrections; the method is positive reinforcement and clear communication throughout.
Homework is real but small. You get a few minutes of practice each day and a note on what to watch for at home, so the skills show up in your kitchen and on Eastern Ave, not only in the training room.

Cost and enrolling
From $94 a session, with the length chosen at the assessment
Training at Dogtown starts from $94 per session. Because every program is tailored to the puppy in front of us, we confirm the plan and the full investment after a short assessment rather than quoting a package blind. The three lengths let you match the course to the puppy: 4 weeks for a confident pup who mostly needs structure, 6 weeks as the usual choice, 8 weeks for a shy or very young puppy who benefits from a slower build.
Enrolling starts with the contact form on this site. Tell us your puppy's age and what has come up so far, and you will hear back within one hour on business days. Vaccination records from your vet come with you to the first session. Training itself begins with Gabby's short assessment; if you would also like puppy daycare or Dogtown Academy days, the free evaluation on a weekday morning between 6:30 and 9:30 AM comes first.

A behaviorist-led class inside a 10,000 square foot building
Gabriella Pope leads every program. She holds a B.S. in Biochemistry, has spent more than ten years with behaviorally complex dogs, and has fostered dogs through Cape Ann Animal Aid, so she has met the puppy who bites, the puppy who hides and the puppy who pees on every visitor. Her approach is relationship-based and fear- and force-free: she looks for the why behind a behavior and builds a plan around it.
The building helps. Dogtown is 10,000 square feet at 210 Eastern Ave with indoor play floors, an outdoor turf yard with pools and platforms, a sensory garden and a grooming studio. A Tiny Tails puppy can hear a dryer through a wall, walk on turf, rubber and concrete, and meet a calm adult dog from a matched playgroup of 7 to 10, all in one morning and all under supervision. Puppies who later join daycare already know the smell of the place.

Getting here
Eastern Ave, the Pup Van and the puppy's first Cape Ann winter
Dogtown sits at 210 Eastern Ave in Gloucester, on the road out toward Rockport. We are open Monday to Friday 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM, and training sessions are scheduled inside those hours. Puppies who also come for daycare use the drop-off windows: weekdays 6:30 to 9:30 AM, 12 to 1 PM and 4 to 6:30 PM. The Pup Van collects and returns dogs for $10 each way in Rockport, Gloucester, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea; from other towns, ask us for pricing.
A puppy who starts Tiny Tails in the fall gets an easy first Cape Ann winter. Gloucester's beaches open to dogs on October 1, Good Harbor on even-numbered days and Wingaersheek on odd, at the time of writing. A vaccinated, licensed puppy who has learned recall in class can practise it on empty sand in November. Get the city license from the City Clerk at 9 Dale Ave, $20 for a spayed or neutered dog with a current rabies certificate, and keep tick checks going through November, since tick season on Cape Ann runs April to November.
